Privacy Policy

Syn9 (hereinafter referred to as "the Site") sets forth this Privacy Policy (hereinafter referred to as "this Policy") regarding the handling of user information, including personal information, in the services provided by the Site (hereinafter referred to as "the Service").

1. User Information Collected and Methods of Collection

In this Policy, "user information" means information related to the identification of users, behavioral history on communication services, and other information generated or accumulated in connection with users or their devices, which the Site collects pursuant to this Policy.

(1) Information provided by users

The following information may be provided by users in order to use the Service or through the use of the Service:

  • Profile information such as name, date of birth, gender, and occupation
  • Contact information such as email address, phone number, and address
  • Payment information such as credit card details, bank account information, and electronic money information
  • Still image information including the user's likeness
  • Information entered or submitted by users through input forms or other methods designated by the Site

(2) Information provided by other services when users authorize linkage with those services while using the Service

When a user authorizes linkage with another service such as a social networking service while using the Service, the Site will collect the following information from that external service based on the content agreed to at the time of authorization:

  • The ID used by the user on the external service
  • Other information that the user has permitted to be disclosed to linked services through the privacy settings of the external service

(3) Information collected by the Site as users use the Service

The Site may collect information about access to the Service and how it is used. This includes the following information:

  • Referrer
  • IP address
  • Server access log information
  • Cookies, ADID, IDFA, and other identifiers

2. Purposes of Use

The specific purposes for which the Site uses user information in connection with the provision of the Service are as follows:

  • (1) To provide, maintain, protect, and improve the Service, including accepting registrations, identity verification, user authentication, recording user settings, and calculating usage fees
  • (2) To measure traffic and user behavior
  • (3) To deliver, display, and measure the effectiveness of advertisements

3. Methods of Notification, Disclosure, Obtaining Consent, and Requesting Suspension of Use

3-1 For the following user information, the Site will obtain the user's consent before collection:

3-2 Users may request the suspension of collection or use of all or part of their user information by configuring the appropriate settings within the Service. In such cases, the Site will promptly suspend use in accordance with the Site's prescribed procedures. Note that for certain items of user information, collection or use is a prerequisite for the Service, and the Site will only suspend collection or use when the user withdraws from the Service using the Site's prescribed method.

4-2 The Service incorporates the following information collection modules. Accordingly, user information is provided to the information collection module providers (including those located outside Japan) as described below:

(3) Items of user information provided

Usage data such as counts, volumes, processing times, and configuration information for each data type (contacts, schedules, images, etc.)

(4) Means and methods of provision

User information is stored on servers managed by Google. Google uses such user information within the scope of purposes defined by Google.

(5) Purposes of use by the above provider

For details on Google Analytics and the purposes defined by Google, please refer to "https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/partners/".

(6) Third-party provision by the above provider

User information will not be transmitted or provided to third parties except in the cases set forth in each of the following items:

  • When transmitted to information collection module providers as defined in Article 2
  • When provision to third parties is permitted without the consent of the individual under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, such as provision based on laws and regulations or provision to contractors in connection with outsourcing

5. Third-Party Provision

The Site will not provide personal information among user information to any third party (including those located outside Japan) without the prior consent of the user. However, this does not apply in the following cases:

  • (1) When the Site outsources all or part of the handling of personal information to the extent necessary to achieve the purposes of use
  • (2) When personal information is provided in connection with a business succession due to a merger or other reason
  • (3) When personal information is provided to partners or information collection module providers in accordance with the provisions of Article 4
  • (4) When it is necessary to cooperate with a national or local government agency or a person entrusted by such agency in carrying out duties prescribed by law, and obtaining the user's consent is likely to impede the performance of such duties
  • (5) In other cases permitted by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other applicable laws and regulations

6. Joint Use

The Site jointly uses users' personal information as follows:

  • (1) Items of personal information jointly used
  • All personal data of the individual, unless the individual makes a special request to the contrary
  • (2) Scope of joint users
  • Sites related to Syn9
  • (3) Purposes of use by joint users
  • Same as Article 2 above
  • (4) Name of the party responsible for managing the personal information

7. Disclosure of Personal Information

When a user requests disclosure of personal information pursuant to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, the Site will, after confirming that the request is from the user themselves, disclose the information to the user without delay (or notify the user if no such personal information exists). However, this does not apply where the Site is not obligated to disclose under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other applicable laws and regulations. Please note that a fee of 1,000 yen per request will be charged for disclosure of personal information.

8. Correction and Suspension of Use of Personal Information

8-1 When a user requests (1) correction of personal information on the grounds that it is inaccurate, pursuant to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, or (2) suspension of use of personal information on the grounds that it is being handled beyond the scope of the disclosed purposes of use or was collected by deceptive or other improper means, pursuant to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, the Site will, after confirming that the request is from the user themselves, promptly conduct the necessary investigation and, based on the results, correct or suspend use of the personal information and notify the user accordingly. If the Site decides not to make corrections or suspend use, it will notify the user to that effect.

8-2 When a user requests deletion of their personal information and the Site determines that it is necessary to comply with such request, the Site will, after confirming that the request is from the user themselves, delete the personal information and notify the user accordingly.

8-3 The provisions of 8-1 and 8-2 shall not apply where the Site is not obligated to make corrections or suspend use under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other applicable laws and regulations.

10. Procedures for Changing this Privacy Policy

The Site may change this Policy as necessary. However, in the case of changes to this Policy that require user consent under applicable laws and regulations, the revised Policy shall apply only to users who have consented to the changes through the method prescribed by the Site. When the Site changes this Policy, it will notify users of the effective date and content of the revised Policy through display on the Site or other appropriate means.
